Buzz Words: The search for truth

via bilerico.com
Whenever an issue just up-n-disappears from the local news, I get the feeling we should start digging. For instance, I've not heard a lick of news about unemployment in weeks. I'm assuming this means the recession is over and everyone has jobs now. In my opinion, when "they" stop talking about something abruptly that means it's really time to start digging. It can be easy to fall victim to out-of-sight-out-of-mind when the coverage on these stories in reduced on your local news and give into distraction (OMG, the latest spring hair trends!).

Some times we may feel like we can't handle the burden of truly being informed because we don't feel we have the power to help those who are suffering. I feel like just being aware is help enough. If we make an effort to be aware we can respond more quickly and positively when a time comes that we are able to address the wrong we see and hear about. To be aware is to be ready on a base level. I also feel that the energy we put out is changed when our energy comes from a more aware place. We operate based on our perception of the world. As we become more aware of the differences between what we are told and what we see with our eyes, that perception changes and so, in turn, do we.

I'd recommend starting your dig at sites like Democracy Now!, Alternet, Al Jazeera English, or even Fark and Reddit.

Other recent disappearances from our local news (Feel free to add any you've noticed in the comments below):

- The state of Japan's nuclear reactors and, more importantly, how far the health risks of the leaked radiation may reach. radioactive oceans, anyone?

- What Khamis Gaddafi, son of Muammar, was doing on a state sponsored visit to the US right up until the uprising in Libya? dailymail.co.uk

Happy Hunting!
