If you don't drink, you had better have a lot of friends.

A tightly controlled study has shown that persons abstaining from alcohol all together can lead shorter lives than those who consistently and moderately partake. One theory on why is that since alcohol is a social lubricant, people who drink have larger social networks to lean on while those who abstain may not have as many friends and be more prone to depression. So next time you're throwing one down, don't forget to drink a toast to longevity and great friends!
