Breaking my silence....

I had to pop in and do my part to spread the word about the situation in Wisconsin. Via Democracy Now!:

Thousands Protest Anti-Public Worker Bill in Wisconsin

Protests are continuing in Wisconsin over a bill that would eliminate almost all collective bargaining rights for public workers and slash their pay and benefits.

What's the best part of beng my own boss?

Answer: Giving myself the week off! I'm getting married this Friday so, to keep my sanity, I'm taking the week off to get my house, myself and my soon-to-be-husband ready. I thought by ditching the traditional wedding (we're going the courthouse route) I would avoid the stress of modern nuptials but I was so, so wrong! Look for the whole story next week upon my return. Until then....wish me luck!

*Investigators Failing to Link Manning to Assang! - This is so fantastic. Despite their bluster the US government cannot find any evidence supporting their accusation that Julian Assange induced Private Manning to leak classified docs.

Give anybody any ideas?

I look forward to the day when the American people can make a similar statement to our own government. How effective! "We will not go to work! We will not earn money! We will not need money! We will take care of each other! When you are ready to take care of our country with the understanding we expect and demand you act as responsible stewards of our lives and our planet, we will help you and we will do great things!" Does this excite anyone else?

Starving the Beast: The Journey to Independent Living

In Starving the Beast: The Journey to Independent  Living, we'll follow my progress as I begin to change my household's daily habits in order to begin living as independent of our broken Market/Monetary System as possible under our current circumstances. I currently reside near the heart of Denver, CO in a basement apartment with my soon-to-be-husband and our cat, Donny ("Shut the f*ck up, Donny!" "You're out of your element, Donny!"). I am blogging full time (i.e. unemployed, ha!) and my hubby is a carpenter who does mostly new home construction and re-models. We work hard for what we have and both of us agree it is important to spend every cent wisely and responsibly. Our goal will be to provide our household with the basic human/cat needs: safe nutritious food, clean water, clothing, shelter and transportation, in sustainable and globally responsible ways. It should be noted that I begin this project with weak-at-best cooking skills, no real knowledge of sewing techniques, and whatever the opposite of a green thumb is....so at least my cursing should be entertaining!

Today's Topic: Cat Food (I just ran out!)

"We also tested it at 23%, 33%, 45%, but 59.9% is the one that shows the best performance and where the organization can market the product."

A new growing demand for credit cards that people with poor credit qualify for has lead to over 700,000 people willingly signing up for a cards with a 59.9% or 79.9% APR!!! Many of them have already defaulted after running up their balances. This kind of madness will engineer yet another economic collapse and it is happening right before our eyes and not only is it legal, it is encouraged! money.cnn.com

If you don't drink, you had better have a lot of friends.

A tightly controlled study has shown that persons abstaining from alcohol all together can lead shorter lives than those who consistently and moderately partake. One theory on why is that since alcohol is a social lubricant, people who drink have larger social networks to lean on

Gibbons have accents!?

Scientists have discovered something similar to regional dialects in the songs of the gibbons living in Asian rain forests. After analyzing more than 400 gibbons from 92 groups in 24 locations, it was found that each group's song is slightly different from the next and can be used to identify species and location! mnn.com

Egyptian People Still Holding Out...

The protests are entering their 3rd week in Egypt, as the people refuse to disband until Mubarak leaves. Rumor has it a hospital in Germany is being considered as a possible exile location.

Wicked Awesome Ice Fort!

I think the bigger story is the life style these 6 men live. According to the article, not only do they engineer sweet ice forts, they foster "intentional community" as well.

It's a real life Babe! In England even!

OMG!

I call BS!

There is no way you can convince me the US State Dept doesn't know who started the violence in Cairo. Ooo, ooo, ooo, me, me, me, I know! If you need further proof that the US is not only behind Mubarak's government but really nervous right now, just watch them squirm on the television. Everybody looks like they have to take an emergency poo. Walk.Away.

Viva la Resistance!!!!

Attention World! This is how you help the people in Egypt, you tell the truth! Vodafone has come out to say that the pro-government tweets and texts coming out of Egypt are fake and the company was forced to cooperate and send them out.

Can no one keep records?

Not even the S.E.C.?

"I do find myself getting pretty excited when somebody leans down anywhere near the middle of their car, like they're going for money. That's weird -- you get excited about that."

Grayson Kamm, of 10News in Tampa, FL, goes undercover as a pan handler. He offers a different perspective than the one so often offered here in Denver. I heard about a similar experiment someone did a while back where it was reported that pan handlers made up to $18 an hour in some areas of the city. I have even heard of people seeing someone get dropped of in a car to take over for a pan handler (same sign and all)...like changing shifts.

"No, Mubarak!"

Here is the truth about the motivation of the uprising in Egypt. We must support the Egyptian people, especially today, with thoughts of protection as Mubarak backed thugs have already resorted to violence. Please help to spread the word that the violence is not stemming from those protesting the Mubarak regime, but government oil workers and Mubarak paid thugs.

Don't Believe the Hype

Don't believe what MSBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, etc are telling you about the situation in Egypt. This uprising has been  overwhelmingly peaceful on the part of the people, the looting and other violence has been tied back to supporters of Mubarak. There is no worry of "radicals" taking hold of the government, the people have already made it clear they are not on board for that. This is positive change our country must support as a "Leader in Democracy".
