I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that this really is the next step in our social evolution. We must follow through on a resource based economy if for no other reason than we have the ability to. Why in the world would we not take immediate action to ensure the survival, recovery and future abundance of our planet and our species.
You are kidding yourself if you believe we are here for any other reason than to propagate the species, first and foremost. If we do not change our global habits immediately we will have failed as a species at the most fundamental level and doomed a planet in the process.
This is a radical solution but that doesn't mean it's not a logical solution. Do not let the idea of no money scare you. We must have money in the current system to survive so it's understandable if the concept is hard to reconcile. This solution would dissolve the current market/monetary system and replace it with a system where the community's needs, and most of their wants, would be equally available to everyone at no cost. If you don't need money to get what you need, you really don't need money at all.
Remember to be patient with yourselves after you watch the film. I'm still trying to come up with social problems that would still exist without money and I reason for a resource based economy every time. This is the goal of the movie, to get the population thinking about the concept and reasoning it out for themselves.
Lastly, if you find (like I have) that you feel compelled to join the cause go to thezeitgeistmovement.com to join (or start!) chapters in your area. Personally, I've been struggling with wanting to be an active part of the solution but not feeling like the answer was in politics. This isn't about writing your senators, it's about changing your personal habits to break the chains and educating others so they can do the same.
It's time to pull our heads out of the sand and acknowledge our country's actions. We need to send a clear message that not only have we noticed, we will no longer stand for it. It hurts, but the first step is realizing we are all products of a system that has doomed us to a cycle of debt and bankruptcy instead of abundance and growth. We have been told all of our lives that we can do anything if we just work hard enough so we would all go out an be productive little worker bees, get our pay and diligently spend every last cent and then some. We have been lied to.
